Welcome to a series of articles written for TEDxLeicesterWomen 2019, event being hosted at Gateway College 7th December 2019, by students helping, organising and running TEDxLeicesterWomen Bold+Brilliant event.
Setting the Scene …
Hi there everyone, welcome to our update on Tedx Leicester: Women 2019 (Bold and Brilliant). On Tuesday 29th October, we attended a seminar held at Gateway College by a few employees and volunteers from TEDxLeicester. They spoke to us about the importance of volunteering and what TEDxLeicester stands for, sparking our interests in the company. They talked about how students can get involved by networking and practising skills we are interested in.
On Monday 4th November, Gateway College had the pleasure of welcoming Dave Sinclair, from the production company, Corporate Motion. He came in, and soon figured out the best areas to put his cameras in order to capture the main event! Thanks to his expertise, the live talks will be portrayed perfectly through the camera.
An air of excitement fills Gateway College and many students are eager to contribute towards the big day. A Level Graphic Students have graciously put their skills to good use by working on themed t shirt and tote bag designs. We also learnt that second year, Next Gen students have been working on event animations which will be shown in between talks.
In addition to that, we are happy to announce that both Foundation and A Level Art students have designed some pieces inspired by the topic of the talks that will take place.
The Art students are working on various pieces linked to feminism and are channelling the theme of “bold and brilliant”. Eager to take part in the event, an ex-student has agreed to bring in a garment they previously made which links in to the theme and topic of the talks.
The excitement builds as more guest speakers are being announced via the Twitter account for Tedx Leicester. Make sure you don’t miss out on the talks which will feature the speakers: Charlotte Carpenter, Susan Oh, Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, Ghida Ibrahim, Dr. Sharon Redrobe, Chani Simms, Shagufta Iqbal, and Dr. Amber Ghaddar.
We are incredibly eager to see what these wonderful, strong, and inspirational women have to say, and we’re sure you are too! The talks will take place at Gateway College on December 7th 2019, and all talks will be live-streamed on YouTube. We hope you enjoy the event!
